COLLIERY BRAND VISIBILITY RAISED AT THE MINING MEDIA AWARDS
Hwange Colliery Company limited participated in this year’s Mining Media Awards which took place on 28 September in Harare.
The awards consisted of six categories sponsored by various mining companies among them MIMOSA, ZIMPLATS, Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company among others and Hwange Colliery sponsored the OVERALL MINING SECTOR REPORTER AWARD trophy.
The Managing Director, Engineer Thomas Makore handed over the trophy to the winners alongside guest of honour Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Honourable Patrick Chinamasa.
The awards, co-hosted by MEJRKH Communications led by Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere and Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe, were aimed at improving journalistic excellence in mining matters and positively influence understanding of the industry, which is now a key driver of economic growth in Zimbabwe.
Minister Chinamasa, following the panic buying that gripped Zimbabwe a few weeks ago told guests at the event that there was no reason to panic, as all sectors of the economy, notably mining, were on the rebound.
“We have success stories and one of them is that, at the beginning of the year coal production was around 30 000 metric tonnes per month, and after we recapitalised Hwange Colliery Company at the end of August, it is now 300 000 metric tonnes per month,” Minister Chinamasa said.
The awards ran under the theme “Driving excellence in mining reporting”.
