Mr. Munashe Shava
Administrator – Hwange Colliery Company Limited Holdings
Mr. Munashe Shava is a seasoned mining executive with extensive experience across diverse mineral portfolios in Zimbabwe and the Southern African region. He brings deep expertise in both greenfield and brownfield mining development, underpinned by a strong track record of operational leadership and strategic transformation.
He was appointed Assistant Administrator of Hwange Colliery Company Limited in November 2018 and subsequently elevated to the position of Administrator in 2022, where he leads the company’s turnaround, growth, and diversification agenda.
Beyond Hwange, Mr. Shava holds several high-level leadership roles. He serves as Administrator for Shabanie and Mashaba Mines (SMM), Chief Executive Officer of Mutapa Platinum, and is a former Chairman of the Board at the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company. He also contributes to industry leadership as the Second Vice President of the Zimbabwe Chamber of Mines.
Mr. Shava began his mining career with the Kinross Gold Group, rising to Mine Overseer level. He went on to hold senior technical and executive roles across leading mining organisations including Anglo American (Mine Superintendent), Zimbabwe Platinum Mines (Senior Mining Engineer), River Ranch Diamond Mine (Mine Manager and later General Manager), Noventa Ltd in Mozambique (General Manager), Marange Resources (Mine Manager and General Manager), and Apex Minerals (General Manager and Chief Executive Officer).
He is an Associate Member of the Zimbabwe School of Mines and a member of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM).
Mr. Shava holds a Master of Science in Leadership and Change Management from Leeds Beckett University (UK), an Advanced Certificate in Project Management from the University of Cape Town (South Africa), a Diploma in Mining Engineering from the Zimbabwe School of Mines, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance and Strategic Leadership from Midlands State University.
